When to stop using the door
A door that is too heavy to lift by hand, or that lifts partway and drops, has a spring or cable problem, not an opener problem. Stop using the opener on that door. Forcing it through the motor can damage the opener, and the door itself can fall.
The same applies to a door that comes off its track or binds partway through its travel. Running the opener against a door that is not moving freely puts more strain on parts that have already started to fail.
What to tell us when you call
Say what the door does when you press the button or the remote: nothing at all, a hum with no movement, or movement that reverses partway. Say what changed right before it started, if anything.
Opener questions
The motor runs but the door does not move. What does that mean?
A stripped drive gear or a trolley that has come loose from the door.
Do you repair the opener, or only replace it?
